Lauren M. Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund Information

Scholarships have been established for college-bound high school seniors at Lauren's alma mater, Wyomissing Area High School, Wyomissing, PA, and at Wilson High School, West Lawn, PA, where Lauren's father is a teacher.  Scholarship selection criteria
targets students who have faced (or are currently facing) adversity, yet continue to excel academically.  The minimum award for each scholarship is $1,000.

Students applying for this scholarship are required to write an essay describing how the following quote from American poet Maya Angelou has impacted their lives: "I can be changed by what happens to me.  I refuse to be reduced by it."  Student winners are selected by a team of three (3) school officials and two (2) family members.  Actual winning essays are featured in the box below.

In 2007, a scholarship will be established at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, where Lauren was enrolled in the school of Media Arts and Design as an interior design major.


Lauren's fund is managed by the Berks County Community Foundation, a fully-accredited, non-profit, IRS 501(c)(3) approved charitable organization.  Contributions made to the this fund are fully tax deductible. 


Lauren Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship Fund

As of July, 2007, six (6) $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to deserving high school
seniors who have exceled academically in spite of adverse challenges and circumstances.

The Fund awards two (2) or more annual scholarships to high school
seniors from public school districts in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
